New Orleans Disaster Recovery Program Wins First Place

Recognized for excellence in integration, the New Orleans Disaster Recovery Program, created by Rebuilding Management LLC, won first place in the 2008 Innovative Housing Technology Awards presented by TecHome Builder magazine.  The award pays tribute to Rebuilding Management’s innovative use of computer technology to integrate all aspects of the home restoration process.

“Our goal is to quickly return displaced residents to their homes,” said Rick Westmoreland, founder and CEO of Rebuilding Management.  “The scalable Web-based program that we developed speeds up the rebuilding process through automation, allowing us to swiftly rebuild homes, and ultimately communities, that have been devastated by natural disasters.”

To qualify for the Integrated Excellence award, a product must perform tasks in at least three of the following areas of homebuilding: (1) sales and marketing, (2) design, (3) field operations, and (4) back-office operations.  Rebuilding Management’s disaster recovery program performs tasks in all four.

“The Rebuilding Management system empowers rebuilding organizations to operate like general contractors ,” said Westmoreland, “only more efficiently.”  Components of the system include property-damage assessment, cost estimating, material and contractor bidding, purchase and work orders, scheduling and labor management, and construction management.

Unique to the system is the financial safeguard component that protects homeowners from fraud and ensures payment to contractors and material suppliers.  “We’ve all heard the horror stories about victims of natural disasters being ripped off by unscrupulous contractors, as well as the stories about hardworking contractors getting stiffed by unconscionable homeowners,” said Westmoreland.  “Our financial safeguard component reestablishes trust in these situations.”

Rebuilding Management is currently helping to rebuild communities destroyed by Hurricane Katrina by donating its award-winning system to not-for-profit organizations for use in their rebuilding efforts.  “Not-for-profit organizations have taken a leading role in rebuilding lives and communities in the Gulf Coast region.  Working together, we can increase production, lower costs, and improve the quality of the homes,” said Westmoreland.   “I grew up in the Gulf Coast region, so I feel a personal connection to victims of Katrina.  The Rebuilding Management disaster recovery program is our contribution to the rebuilding effort.”
